charging a crystal
« on: August 27, 2004, 12:15:39 PM »
I'm looking for a clear quartz crystal because I've heard that they will hold a charge longer than other crystals.

Can someone tell me how to charge it? I've heard that if someone else has owned the crystal before that you can remove their charge by making 3 chopping motions above the crystal.

Any help out there? I've heard about setting out in the sun or moon light, but that's not what I'm looking for. I've read it somewhere and I can't remember.
thanks,

with light and love

Hi js,   Your intention is the main factor.  If you want to chop or clap or whatever, that seems okay too.  However the intention is what makes it work.  The same goes for putting the crystal out under a full moon or in the sun.
My preference is wash the crystal in a bowl of sea water and let it dry on a white cloth.  Then to polish the crystal gently with the white cloth.

Hi John,
The three chops were to remove whatever charge a crystal already has on it. I'm curious are you placing your intent as you polish the crystal with the white cloth. And where do you live. I'd be hard pressed to come up with sea water (smile). I live in TN.

Here is some good information I found on "activating" your crystal after you have charged it.

Activating Your Crystal
Some readers will not be familiar with how to activate a crystal. Sometimes, a crystal can be a "sleeper," and needs to know it is going to be used for healing or meditative purposes. Making a spiritual connection with the crystal helps to activate it, to awaken its consciousness. You can activate your crystal through an initiation ritual, by holding it, rolling it quickly back and forth in your hands, sleeping with it, gazing at it, washing it and generally handling it. To awaken its consciousness through ritual, offer some sage, sweetgrass or tabacco and indicate your intent for use of the crystal (e.g. for healing). This event marks the initiation of the crystal and makes an energy connection with the person using the crystal. Remember to fully recharge your crystal after you've been handling it for activation purposes

I charge crystals using Reiki. This is what I was taught by my teacher. First clean the crystal(s) using salt as a scrub. Hold the crystal(s) in your hands, draw the symbols over them, either physically or mentally to charge them. You can also specifically charge them for a purpose or for a particular person. (Direct them). Please be sure to clean your crystals regularly and after every personal programming, with salt and water.

Hi Everyone!

May I humbly suggest that you don't use salt water on your crystals?  The salt can actually damage fragile crystals, and others it can coat with a salty film, thus reduces the energy generation.  Clear quartz crystals are the best for healing purposes.  To prepare them - hold them in your hands and 'connect' with them.  Then say some invocation or prayer over them - whichever you are more comfortable with, and use that invocation or prayer before every use.  To clean, use chamomile tea, then dry with soft clean cloth.   I hope this is of use? :-\

Hi and welcome Lindycg,

Your advice certainly is of use.  Thank you for sharing with us.

However, some crystals shouldn't be wet at all because it will cause them to break, and some shouldn't be put out in the sun to clear them as it will cause them to fade. I have experienced both these scenarios with crystals that I cherished and thought I was doing the right thing by.

The safest way I know of to clear crystals is to use Reiki on them, and this has the added advantage of programming them for healing if this is our intent.  It is also quicker than burying them in earth or placing them in moonlight.

Yes I am another one that has found from experience that clearing and charging the crystals with Reiki is the best bet....

Although they do always enjoy a little visit with the full moon also.... :) but only on a dry full moon night... ;)
