attuning pets?
« on: January 11, 2005, 02:47:49 AM »
Here's my silly question.  I'm a reiki III, and though I don't feel quite 'master'-y enough in my own use of reiki to start whipping out the attunements, I do want to know, and to practice, how to do them.  I know a lot of people practice giving reiki treatments to their pets, but is there any opinion on actually *attuning* your pet to reiki?   I know one of my attunements left me feeling less than 100% for a few days, and I certainly wouldn't want to do *that* to my furry little darlings.  I figure this is probably the place to ask.  So, fellow reiki-friends, any thoughts?

Hi swordqueen,

Interesting question, but not completely new. I have been asked this question before and I will do my best to explain.

The act of attunement comes with a two-fold responsibilty package. The person giving the attunement has a responsibility to his/her new student to share experience and provide instruction in pursuit of change. The receiver has a responsibility toward self-healing and practice in order to be a clear channel for the healing energy.

With this in mind, both parties need to be on the same sheet of music as far as intent. An attunement is clearly different from healing since healing is a passive application of reiki energy. Attunements on the other hand involve something larger in which energy vibrations are increased and chakras are cleansed. A plant, animal, or even a baby for instance do not need this. They have no intention of performing reiki on others and do not have the the capability or the understanding of intent to complete this action.

I do not see the harm in giving an attunement to an animal, but on the other hand I have a hard time understanding the purpose. Practicing reiki on a plant or animal is understandable and almost expected in order to practice and evolve in your journey but not attunement. Honestly I don't really see an attunement even being accepted by an animal, but I guess that is something I can't really validate or invalidate. What it boils down to is reason and responsibility.
Why is this attunement going to be performed?
Will you be able to properly mentor this student and share experience? The answer is probably no if it is an animal.

These are my initial thoughts, but I am sure everyone else will have their own views. Great question though!

Love,
Max

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

I give reiki to my puppy when I think she needs it.  When I'm working on a client I have to put her out of the room as she wants my attention......or maybe the reiki ;)

The only reason I'd attune her is if I felt she wanted it......sounds strange I know but that's how I feel.  If I did attune her then I believe that she would then give reiki back to me and my family if and when we needed it.  Much like people in hospitals feeling better after they have petted a furry friend.  Maybe I will do it when she's a little older and gives me the signal whatever it is.

As you live with cats I assume you'd want to attune one of them?  Cats really know what they want and don't want and I guess if you tried to attune one of them and they didn't want it they'd sure let you know wouldn't they ;)

Just my thoughts you know ;)

Hi Sword Queen,

I have attuned all of my animals (except my fish)...
one cat let me know that there was NO NEED as he was already a master.... ;)
the other cat thought it was yummy....and really liked it...he loves to "do reiki" with me...
the dogs that I have attuned also really felt good from it...
my own dog really liked it, ;) and is much more sensitive to reiki sessions since...

a friends dog wouldn't stop interferring with her human's attunement to level I,
so the master took the dog aside and attuned her, so she would trust and know what was going on with her human..she went and sat quietly until her human was done too... ;)

You should "feel out" what your animals each might want and go right ahead and attune them if you sense that they would be open to it...It is a really nice way to practice and it is with beings that you love...

welcome to sri,

greetings SwordQueen

I've heard before that peeps have been attuning animals. I also know that cats love to get some Reiki so... why wouldn't they respond to an energyevent such as an attunement. Purpose? For the highest godd, of course :)

Don't belive you should worry about it. Even though animals are know to mantle out own blocks and issues, they might not need to have the cleansing process... imagina a cat with blocks ... maybe there is...

Hi Guys,

I attuned one of my cats, Jade around four years ago and she is the most wonderful channel.  When she thinks I'm the one needing some Reiki she always seems to know and jumps on my lap to share her gift.

I am fully in favour of attuning animals if you believe it is what they want.

In Love and Light,
Tracy

I thank you guys for your advice.  In the end, I figured I could rely on the basic rule of cats: if they don't like anything, they get up and walk away.  When I was first starting out and not so good about sensing energy, that's how I'd tell they'd had enough.  So, with that in mind, I began meditating.  Sure enough, Merlie, my big bad tomcat, appears out of nowhere and curls up in my lotus position (he always shows up when I meditate--he likes the energy?)  I said, well, here goes, and began the attunement.

He sat through it like a little doll.  Of course I snuck in a few kisses on his paws after drawing the symbols, which is not STRICTLY part of the attunement ritual, but I figured the reiki guides would understand.  He LOVED it.  He fell asleep for about an hour, and when he came to my lap later that night and began kneading me into a pulp, his paws were noticeably *warm*.  I'm not going to run around and attune the rest of the guys, but he really seemed to enjoy it.  And it was nice to get some direct feedback that it actually *worked*.

I did the whole thing.  Sat him in my lap, opened his crown, drew the symbols on his paws, blew on him.... The whole purpose, for me, was to *practice* the whole shebang, so he GOT the whole shebang.  Of course he's an exceptionally patient cat (he's sat in my lap while I bandaged him after a few rough fights)....

Wow, that's a great story!  You actually asked the question I was going to ask before long! :P  I was wondering in the sense of therapy animals that goes to hospitals and clinics, was wondering if anybody ever heard of one that had been attuned to reiki.  But the house pets were also on my mind! :P  They always seem to know when you are down and blue, and do their best to cheer you up with their wet little noses! :P

They sure do Alex,

I've been tring to find old posts on this topic, I know there have been some but I've not unearthed them so far.

I know a few people who have attuned their pets, cats in particular receive the energy and give it back very well.

Why don't you try it ;)

this is a silly question, but I know you guys don't really care about my ignorance  8) ... but do animals, esp cats have chakras like humans? same number, same position?

do different animals have more, less, or does every creature have the same as humans?

love from Georgia xx

Hi Georgie

Not a silly question at all.  Yes Cats do have chakras.  Have a look on this link.

http://www.colourtherapyhealing.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi?CMD=011&PROD=1113923032

It should show you a poster of the main chakras in pussy cats.

I hope this helps.
