How can I improve reiki flow?
« on: August 10, 2003, 11:46:58 AM »
Hey all,

a lot of my students come to reiki workshop and then practice reiki for a few weeks every day and that's it. Than most of them are wondering how come reiki is not flowing any more, they feel almost nothing.
Below I elaborate on some, from my point of view, important facts about our own approach to reiki. Lets face it, reiki is reiki, it is not everything ones life requires (if that was the case, we would all be completely happy, wouldn't we.), and I am ever more emphasizing that reiki students should look into some mental technique and combine reiki with it. I even encourage them to do mental techniques as their primary method of self development. Reiki is fine, but in the end it is just energy, so...

In my humble opinion, please.

So, what should a reiki practicioner (beninner or "experienced" master) do to improve reiki flow? Here we go:

You will have to take in consideration at least these four areas of your life:
- time spent with Reiki
- narrow-minded approach
- your day-to-day life
- your goal

Time spent with Reiki
Practice makes perfect.
If you are serious about improving Reiki flow through your bodies, you will have to start practicing it every single day! It is not that hard to wake up 20 minutes earlier to do a  Reiki self healing nor it is too demanding to let Reiki run through your bodies before you go to sleep! One hour a day (for few years) should be enough to really open your bodies to Reiki. But, for the most dedicated ones, this shouldn't be all! There are a lot of various ways you can use Reiki. Use your imagination and be creative! Use Reiki for/with everything in your life! Try Japanese Reiki techniques.
Remember Reiki is an energy and it all depends on your mental approach to it!

Narrow-minded  approach
Personal and spiritual growth is like a marathon. One has to be careful and should try to avoid pitfalls of this long distance running. It is very easy to consider oneself very special or even a bit elevated when practicing Reiki. But, it is the fact Reiki is not that special, it is just an energy, nothing more.
Well, if you can live with that than you will have no problem understanding the need for combining Reiki with some other technique.
Bodies of an average human being (like you and me) can get used to Reiki flow very quickly......and the most important issues (causes for our unhappiness and distress) in our life remain in-tacked. Do not be narrow-minded!
Broaden your horizons! It is the same thing with the books we read.
I can choose books written by one author and be done with it. No problem. But how many wonderful things do I miss due to my narrow-minded approach?
How much does my openness (freedom, wisdom) worth if I stick only to one single  book (Reiki)? See?
Combine Reiki with one of many mental techniques (methods, which work on mental plane) or yoga... Don't kid yourself you can really advance using just one technique!

Your day-to-day life
The quality of your everyday life (your relationships with parents, children, partners, coworkers, friends, animals and plants) determents your happiness and openness (and vice versa). Reiki flows through  your etheric body, through your chakras. If these chakras are not working optimally or, in other words, if they are blocked,  Reiki will not flow as it could/should. Chakras are usually blocked with old suppressed emotions (traumas from the past) and negative thought patterns (compromises, avoidance tactics etc...)
If you choose to face these issues, you will enter into
whole new area of personal progress. And Reiki will be there for you all the way. Questions bellow will help you to perceive where you truly stand (both personally and spiritually):

- Am I happy?
- Am I satisfied with my life?
- What am I trying to avoid in life?
- What do I really want in my life?
- What am I running away from in my life?
- Am I really happy with relationships I lead?
- Is my spiritual path making me more happy in my life?
- Do I have a job that fulfills me?
- Am I happy with relationship with my parents?
- Am I really, really happy?

Take some time just once (although it is very important to check yourself every now and then), sit down in locked room, turn off your cell phone and look within yourself. It takes a bit of courage to answer these questions sincerely and to take appropriate actions to remedy these areas in life, but it is worth while in the end.
I've been down this road, and believe me, Reiki flows much stronger and deeper if everyday life is sorted out!

Your goal
It is very simple, really.
What is that you want (in life)?
Are certain that side effects (heat, cold, seeing colors etc...) of Reiki flow are all you can allow yourself to experience?
Be very careful not to take Reiki practices to be goal on their own!
Why did you start to use Reiki in the first place? Use Reiki as a means to get where you want to be, not as a goal itself.
Let Reiki be what it really is:
a piece in mosaic called your eternal existence.
When one is really happy and full of joy Reiki flows
through him more than all Reiki symbols in this world can "force" it!

Please bear in mind that above are just my points of view and may as well be completely misguiding for you...
Trust yourself, if you will...what it all comes down to is only your heart (you).

Tnx for reading this through.

Dear Nitya,

Nice post. When you dismissed 'chakra stuff' in the reiki and sex post the other day, I got the idea that you were not into chakras  ;D

Talking of chakras, would you say that reiki and kundalini are different words for the same thing?

Thanx

No one dismissed chakra stuff.
What is somewhat shortsighted is to think that one will advance just by working on chakras and not by facing his/her own issues.

I think it is you who are dismissing importance of standing firmly on the ground... IMHO

In short:

"...Chakras are usually blocked with old suppressed emotions (traumas from the past) and negative thought patterns (compromises, avoidance tactics etc...)..."

It is impossible to make any REAL progress just by doing some general and impersonal energy work on chakras. One "has to" face suppressed emotions, sort our issues with parents, partner, get a job that fulfills him/her and in no time, chakras will be working well...

Talking of chakras, would you say that reiki and kundalini are different words for the same thing?

No, most definitely not.

Speaking of advance,
would you say that happiness and fulfillment in day-to-day life and successful energy work are two different words for the same thing?

OK, I am with you now. Understood.

No, most definitely not.

In that case can you say how reiki and kundalini are different?

But of course, I can share my opinion, what else.

Reiki is energy, prana, pneuma, ki, bioenergy, ionizing field, chi.

It is impersonal, coming from outside of us (from the Sun, to be more exact).

Kundalini is dormant potential, present in all of us, located at the bottom of the spine cord.
And it CAN NOT be forced to rise. Surrender is the main factor here, and guidance form a REAL master, the liberated one (like Lord Buddha, for example)...

My opinions, of course...

Tnx 4 reading.

Dear Nitya,

thanx for this distinction - I have often heard that reiki and kundalini are the same thing. IYHO would you say that kundalini can arise spontaneously or naturally or only as a specific spiritual practice?

BTW It seems that I am 2500 years too late to be instructed by Lord Buddha  ;D

I have been seeing on this site much mention of chakras.  I am new to the scene and much interested in studing all the differing areas. Especially anything that can help me improve upon or find myself.  If you have any suggested reading or sites where I can find good information for beginers it would be much appreciated.

Life energy called kundalini can arise spontaneously or/and due to deliberate surrender.

Lord Buddha is not dead, so... Meditate on Om Mani Padme Hum for a few years (its worth it) and you will come to know where (and when) Lord Buddha is situated...

Great idea Jenn,
I'm glad you did as I had not previously read this thread before.
And what a coincidence, I spent the better part of last night sourcing information on Kudalini.

I found an informative site some of you might find interesting.

Greetings all,
Just a word on KUndalini and Reiki. KUndalini as everyone speaks is the dormant energy inside of us while Reiki is energy, prana, pneuma, ki, bioenergy, ionizing field, chi. as Nitya said. I agree about it but what one must also understand is that Kundalini which is the dormant energy in us is the potential to be Reiki which is the Universal energy so when we say Reiki we are already using a part of our potential to make it active. Kundalini and Reiki are interchangeable in a way that more kundalini gets changed into Reiki all the time. Kundalini is also known as an infinite source of power so no matter how much energy we expend we always get replenished by this infinite. Thats how when you use Reiki it gets replenished from the source.
I might be wrong in my understanding of the same but I have read through ancient Indian texts to get this understanding. In the end its energy vs potential energy. Potential always gets changed into active.
