Reiki & Animals
« on: June 05, 2005, 08:21:58 AM »
Merry Meet all, this is a rather funny question ;D but whenever I do a self treatment on myself or doing a treatment on friends my cat tries to get in on the act  :D

It happens when either I or a friend is lying down and the treatment is being done when the cat will jump up and walk across stomach or back and rub himself against my hands, luckily my friends are very understanding of this and we have a laugh afterwards.

The stranges thing is whenever i try and do a treatment on him alone he run off, does not want it, dont really want to shut him out of the room when treatments are going on but....................... it looks like I may have to :)

Any ideas????

Lol Pam,

My dog is the same, in that she wants attention when I'm doing reiki - the only other time she will let me do it on her is when she's really in pain (hip displacements)

I have to lock her outside the room now too.  Funny thing is, normally she'd whine and whinge to come back in, not when I'm doing reiki though, she just lays outside the door waiting for me to finish :)

Selene,
Your cat seems to want to "give reiki" with you rather than recieving reiki.... she/he is probably trying to help... ;)

You can attune the cat (although cats really don't need it, as they are already connected in my opinion)

When you wish to give reiki to your cat...I have found that very few animals actually want the hands on, so try a distant one and see if that is recieved better...

Hi Pam,

Your little four legged friend just wants to help!  ;D

Animals are very in tune to what we do with energy.  They are also especially sensitive to people who are in need of healing.  I don't know how you feel about animal communication, but you may want to try gently talking with your cat to let him know his help is appreciated, but he shouldn't be jumping on people in the middle of a session.  Maybe put up a special chair just for him in your Reiki area, and let him know that's his spot where he can sit or lay on to 'send' his own healing from.  I know it sounds off the wall, but it's surprising what animals understand when we take the time to share our thoughts.

As for Mr. Kitty, distant Reiki may be the best choice.  If he moves away as soon as you being sending then you know he doesn't want Reiki at that time.  If he takes it in for a few minutes then moves away, then you know he is done.  It's important to remember that animals take in a lot less Reiki than people do.  My personal thought is because animals are so pure in Spirit, living totally in the now, they use Reiki in a much more beneficial manner than we humans do.  It's a much more natural process for them.

It isn't just reiki for my cat and me. Every time I meditate or do anything with energy at home, the cat will come find me and insist on a lap. Even the half-lotus eventually cuts off circulation and i have to be careful about standing up afterward under normal circumstances. With the cat on my legs, and he weighs 17 pounds (8 kilograms?) so he can do a lot to detract from the experience. For some reason, he will stay and go to sleep the whole time if I let him, but he does not like receiving energy directly. He will get up and go to sleep nearby, out of the way. My guess is that cats do not have the ability to limit the energy they take in, the way people usually do. It seems like a mean way to me to make him move, but if he finds the door closed it upsets hit more.
