Own Style?
« on: December 10, 2005, 12:45:31 PM »
I've had MASSES of comments about this topic from friends & family.  Should people be allowed to develop their own style of Reiki, if they feel that doing so would benefit them and others around them?

Love & Light,
Darryl

Hi Darryl,
I am not sure what you mean by "allowed".
Perhaps you would like to expand on what you mean.

My opinion is that reiki is reiki is reiki...

I  believe that we all develop our own style in some ways... by what we choose to practice...

For instance, some people choose to send distance healing using a list, book or reiki box....others choose to send chi balls...others choose to connect with the recipient on an energy level and perhaps use a proxy...

looking forward to hearing more,

love alley~~*

Hi alley!

What I mean by "allowed" is that from the comments i've recieved on this topic, vast numbers of people reckon that we shouldn't tamper with the "original" Reiki energies.  They believe that when something is made, nothing can supass the original and nothing should attempt to.

Love&Light,
Darryl

Hey Sumer!

What I mean is that the original Reiki is Usui, because it was the first to be discovered, wasn't it?

Darryl

Hello Darryl
So you mean any other kind of reiki beside the UsuiReiki should not be practice like Imara or Kundalini or Angel reiki ?
Is this your question ?

Hi Darryl,
I don't personally believe that people should collect loads of attunements to loads of different flavors of reiki, and I don't personally see the point in always looking for more, purer, shinier, stronger, better, trophy reiki....but......no matter what people claim their reiki does, activates or draws from...the foundation is still the Usui Reiki.... ;)

I have been attuned to several styles of reiki and other healing energies. I also through wonderful person  have been taught to self attune  to whatever energies I feel would be helpful.

That is why I say Shadow walker blend reiki  which is my "own" style of reiki  and/or healing energy  which is "custom blended "  ;D by the "divine "and flows as needed.

I feel most all the enregeries"play well with others" and the result has been an enhanced energy and a stronger flow.
In my expereince, developing my own "style" over time   has been a good thing.

Namaste

Hi Darryl,

First of all, welcome to SRI ;D Sorry I missed your first few posts.

And it's great to have another addition to the 'army' of teenagers on this forum...there's so many of them now I feel old at 28! And I see you're from Inverness, which is a place I just love... having grown up surrounded by Northern Ireland's lake district, there's something very 'homely' about Inverness :D

As for developing our own style of reiki, I believe we all do develop a unique method of channelling reiki. Some people use symbols, some people see reiki as golden light, or blue light..there's a million different ways of sending distant reiki and the list goes on. Whether it's Usui Reiki, Kundalini, Violet Flame and so on, it's still reiki (universal energy), albeit one 'aspect' of that energy.

From my own experience, following work with AA Michael (and others), the way my reiki feels and appears has changed a lot. At the start, it felt like a tingling white light; now it is like a golden stream. Either way, it gets the job done, and that's what really counts :)

Blessings,
David

Excellent topic and some really great responses you guys.
I have to agree with Alley here, reiki is reiki.

I believe that we have the foundations when we are attuned (well, actually at birth, but for arguments sake......) and most of us will begin our practices in the manner that we were taught.  However, over a period of time I do think that we will personalize it somewhat, or at least I do.  I sometimes use symbols, sometimes not, sometimes visualize a white energy flow, sometimes don't.  Depends on what I am feeling and what I feel compelled to do at that moment.  We are all unique individuals therefore our reiki practices will evolve to encompass our uniqueness, at least in my opinion anyhow.

Again, like Alley mentioned, reiki stems from the original Usui.  Others have simply taken that and personalized it for them and then taught it as such.  These systems worked for them, like plain old everyday Usui works for me.... ;) ;) ;).......

Hi there Daryl,

We are all different, the world would be a very boring place if we all did the same thing at the same time each and every day wouldn't it?

I feel the same about reiki.  I have leant the Usui methology but as time has gone by I have tweaked a few things which make the practice easier for me, that make me feel more comfortable.

Some people do enjoy using the exact same method, others like me enjoy doing my own thing.

Reiki IS reiki ... as long as the intent it should be fine imho :D

My thoughts only :D

I tend to sway a little bit on this depending on what mood i am in.

Part traditionalist, Part rebel.

I guess my comfort zone allows me to develop my own ways, things that work with me, and I also encourage those i work wioth to do the same.

the proviso I think is that the underlying ethical values remain and maybe some of the tradition also as that forms the fundamental base of the Reiki system. I believe that energy healing will happen regardless, but if we move too far away from the tradition then it may cease ot be 'reiki' and become 'energy healing'.

Hello Darryl,

I definitly define my own style. And I want to recommend it to everyone.
Thing is that since we all are individuals walking our own path we will get information, knowledge and experiences from different channels.
All this different channels will be mixed to the own style of the individual.

The basics though will remain. (Like grounding, the Reiki principels, cleaning the aura after hands on treatment etc..)

Thats also why I believe that it doesn't matter how many different styles of attunements you've got, but it does matter how you blend the new energy/experiences with your other insights. And that is the key of spiritual growth. (in my humble opinion :) )

Love,

Johan

It is often said that a river without banks becomes a swamp. I suspect that, applied to the question raised in this thread, that tradition is important.

With that being said, however, I think that Reiki flows through each of us in different ways. By that I don't mean that the Reiki changes, but that each of us has an individual way of connecting with the basic energy. As a result, each of us in the final analysis have our own style of Reiki.

Perhaps what the person who started this thread meant was, "Should we develop our own brand of Reiki and identify it as a unique system, branching from the original but yet different?"

I think that like many issues on the spiritual path, there is no easy answer to this question.  Some folks start new systems of Reiki on a whim, to make money, or for other reasons that are less than pure.

On the other hand, some people may be called to start a new stream out of a genuine concern to help others and spread light in our world.

Ultimately, I suspect the proof is in the pudding or, as Christ says, "know them by their fruit." If a new stream of Reiki is genuine, it will be effective. If it is not genuine, in the long run, it will fade away.

Just my two cents and should in no way be taken as inerrant truth :) ;)

Hi! First post, I hope it's okay to bring a 2nd page thread back to live....

So far in my short experience with reiki, I've had a few things happening regarding "one's personal reiki style":

1) when you get a reiju, if you don't zone out or pass out, you remember the "feel" of it and can later emulate it, same color same taste.

2) when working actively/daily on yourself with a certain reiki style, "things" happen that change the feel of the energy... so it's a little bit less "Usui" and a little bit more "you".

3) your soul signature integrates itself into the style you've learned, and suggests a new form or activation method (ie. animal, symbol, whatever)
in my case, I suddenly HAD to use feathers instead of Ray or Light, eventhough I've had a big issue with Angelic fluffy stuff for years. After some time, I got over the feather thingy, and could comfortably use "light rays" again.

4) coming from a more "physical" Chi/ki background, where you have to spend hours/days/weeks gathering energy before hoping to try and cleanse yourself, I remember a period where I kind of lost sight of where my Chi stopped and where my Reiki started... no biggie, but a bit confusing.

I believe we are not "meant" to keep emulating the reiki frequency we learned from senior practitioners... if you feel your energies changing, towards something clear and "formatted"/"usable", I say go for it.  Whether you choose to teach it to others though, is your choice.  Just don't go all out, like so many people who think that "stronger is better". I got a weird attunement off ebay a few months ago (good stuff there if you follow your guts feelings), and ended up in a semi-trance in the middle of the night, feeling this energy rushing through me like a wild boar... very efficient in terms of "opening", but a little rough if you ask me. Still, for 7 bucks I can't complain.
