Strange question

Ok, you may remember one of my 2 little cats Connie had to be put to sleep last November. We had got her and Prim from a cat shelter in February 2003 on the condition that we took them both, as they had spent the previous 8 years together. Little did we know at the time that they didn't LIKE eachother 

Anyway, Connie had some quirky little habits which included following me around like a puppy, dribbling when she was really happy (hardly any teeth, bless her) and sitting on my chest in the middle of the night, staring at me and purring (and therefore sometimes dribbling). Oh, and she loved being undercover cat as well. And lastly, she used to go into another room and howl for me to follow her.

Now since she passed, Prim has been getting very very cuddly. Now I first put this down to missing Connie and then realising that she is top-cat and embracing the attention. She had been quite distant before that and a bit of a bully as well.

But recently she has become even more eccentric than usual.

Not only has she started dribbling a little when she's very happy (also not many teeth, but has never dribbled before), but she also howls like a monster, goes under the covers (used to hate it), and most of all, I wake up a lot in the night to see her sitting on my chest, purring and staring at me as well. And she never used to sit on me, either.

So i was wondering ... has she just become cuddlier over the past few months, or has a little bit of Connie's soul stayed with her. Her behaviour is more and more like Connie, it's almost unnerving if it wasn't so cute. Not sure about the staring at me bit, but I got over that when C was doing it 

What do you all think, could a part of Connie have stayed behind? She had such love and was so happy after coming from a shelter, it makes me wonder sometimes.

Oh dear, not many replies but it's been read lots... (thanks for the sweet reply, Sumer!)

I shall take this to mean that no one really knows what's going on with my eccentric little cat.

She is still morphing into Connie, although the habits seem to have stopped getting worse/better (depending on how you see it!)

Any comments appreciated, but not necessary if no one knows how to respond.

I know for sure that human beings 'soul can change to a softer and faithful one .and it can change dramatically
HAve you ever known someone who is in  one night wake a different person the  next day ?
When it happen like that it means the soul has been change..
Now is that could happen to animals too I haven't learn that part but i will ask for you
I'm sure within you ..you can tell
So enjoy the  change my dear ..also you can communicate with your cat and ask her ..you'll be amaze how the  answer might appears

I think in some ways part of Connie could be with Prim, but not because part of her soul has stayed here.  Rather I think it is a testament to the affection Prim really did have for Connie even though she 'pretended' to be aloof in Connie's company.  Ever hear the phrase "immitation is the sincerest form of flattery"?  I'm wondering if that isn't what this is about.  I believe Prim is missing Connie and that in her grieving she is immitating Connie. 

I also think Prim is helping you out too.  She is no doubt picking up on your emotions and in her own kitty way doing what she can to make you feel better.  Our pets are very intuitive, and they can do some amazing things in response to how we are doing.

If you find it uncomfortable, try chatting with Prim and let her know that it's okay just to be herself.  Let her know you appreciate all she's doing but that it's not necessary.  Even something like "Prim you've helped me so much with sharing Connie, but if you don't want to do this anymore that's okay."

If she responds by returning to her 'old' self, then make sure you give her some extra attention and show how much you appreciate her for being her.  If she doesn't respond and continues to mimic Connie's behavior then perhaps she isn't ready to let go yet.

My thoughts aren't very elaborate as such but I do think that Prim is picking up on your loss and trying to ease your sadness.  That's wot I think anyway

Hey peeps thanks for the replies, FP thanks for the advice, I will try and talk to her...haven't had any time alone with her the last few days (my sister's visiting) but will try later tonight once she's gone

I tend to talk to her anyway, but not really deeply. But I will see what she says in return
