New baby rats
« on: April 13, 2006, 06:26:21 PM »
well we got two new baby rats from a pet store because we needed to refocus our energy after Lucy died last weekend.
There were 4 girls and we just couldn't resist the 2 littlest ones... ;)

the store people said they were 9 weeks old, so we offered them normal foods but they wouldn't eat anything...
We wondered if they were actually younger so I tried dipping my finger in soy milk and offered them some...they practically latched on to nurse they were so hungry.... ;D :o

so we have been hand feeding the little darlings... ;D

I have been sending reiki down my finger and massaging them, giving them reiki rubs...on their little tummys... ;) and their digestion is starting to work... ;D

Although we are all still very sad and upset over our beloved Lucy...these new girls are helping us process... :)

I will try to get a photo of the new girls...they are so tiny and cute... :)

they love reiki...and so do I..

love alley~~*

yes Tamara ...rats....they are almost as smart as dogs if you can believe it....

we have had them as pets on and off for about 17 years..my daughter got the first one for her 5th birthday (I have odd friends) and like Inese I was nevous at first...now I adore having them...

Phaedra has  been making toys and games for hers..
rat pinatias with fresh corn inside, bobbing for peas in a paint tray, tug toys, tubes to run through...ect ect...
she is really enjoying them although they aren't Lucy...she still misses Lucy...

Rats are v cute pets! At university two of my housemates had rats and they used to run havoc in the house! Klaus especially used to hide out in my room and nibble on my speakers and all sorts of other things. His favourite thing was my juggling balls as they were filled with seeds. He practically demolished them! (Well, someone had to stop me attempting to juggle ;D)

Still, they were very cute and I never had a problem with them (despite the t(r)ail of destruction, haha!)

They sound so cute the little ones, alley. Poor things being so young ... what have you called them?  :D :-*

What cute little names! Vera Lynn, heehee... does she sing as well?  ;) ;D

I don't think they would like my little Primbots, she'd be chasing them around the house. Actually, she wouldn't, she's too old and can't be bothered...

Have they finished the palace yet?  :D :-*

haaa haa...alas no, she is kinda quiet... ;)

well Miss Primbots might find hunting these guys easy..they sort of freeze when our kitty friends come in to stare longingly at them... ::)

Oh my goodness, Georgia..
the palace is wonderful..it is over 5 feet high and has a variety of shelves at different heights and widths, hammocks, ladders, litter boxes, food stations, climbing ropes and even a coconut shell swing... :o
the girls moved in yesterday... ;D
there is a third girl now also...Rosie...she is very sweet and with her white body and the markings on her head, she looks alot like a cow.. :o she is pretty young and actually makes chirping noises when cuddley... ;D ;D

I shall try to get a photo of it to show you... :)

well...
It has been a while since I wrote about Rats...and alot has happened..
Rosie and Mouse had 15 babies about 8 weeks ago... :o

all was going well until two weeks ago,
I had an accident where a heavy plate fell off the top of the palace as I opened the door...
it hit a baby (who was leaning out in anticipation of the food I had) and knocked her to the ground and really hurt her...she was arching and flipping all over the place... :o

Phaedra was understandably freaking out ...... :'( :'( :'(
I was hit with major guilt for not being careful enough...
I said "Oh my Gawd I broke a baby!!"
but I  grabbed her up, calmed my energy and started doing reiki right away...
I did it for a long while and then Niko took over and did reiki for a long while...
We also gave her rescue remedy...
She survived but..

She was paralysed in her back end...her little back feet were stretched out behind her and she tried to pull herself along on her tummy... :(

Over the next few days we gave her reiki for long stints...and hand fed/watered her while we decided if we should put her to sleep or not...
We had to bathe her frequently because she couldn't clean herself and she often fell onto her back (in whatever mess was in the cage)..

The boys (well, in fairness as they are 18... young men) made a little cart out of Lego with wheels for her to pull herself along with...SO CUTE!!!!

It was wonderful in all the sadness...
we saw the true Spark and Spirit of Life....
we decided to continue to give reiki and care.

Well, a week after the accident she started almost paddling a bit with one back leg...then a few days later the other one...
Then she actually tried to stand on the back feet... ;D ;D

Now we are two weeks past and she can sort of walk but one back leg doesn't respond to her brain commands...so it often sticks out behind her..
and she falls over alot...
But she sits and sleeps on my lap while I paint every night... :)

I guess I have a pet rat now also... ;D

I have named her Cat..because of having more than one life.. ;) and a dad named Mouse...and me being Alley...
She is Alleys Cat... ;)

And we have found homes for smost of the other babies now...
but for a while there we had over 20 pet rats... ;D

Oooooo Alley,

That is totally cool :)  I just love the bit where she now sleeps on your lap when you paint.  Life, love and hope is amazing, if you'd have taken her to a vet they would have put her to sleep.  Your love and hope (and a nice little bit of reiki) helped her through and now she'll help you won't she ;)

I really think that Alley is just teasing us. That rat looks stuffed :) or perhaps she feeds it too much.
