I understand your feeling for caution, astraltraveller, but perhaps this is something that should be personally explored.

We must trust our intuition and have some trust in the universe sometimes.

Cool yo for the response.  I am talking to dmarx right now about leaving the body and I saw yo response to me.  True that trust in the universe is good, but so is caution for the horrible darkness of spiritual sludge.

Its ok if someone wants to fill me up with spiritual sludge. Peace and Love to him if that can help him on his path. If sucking my energy helps him he is most welcome to. His Karmas, he deals with them, my Karmas, i deal with them. Regarding the distant attunement thing I have already said so that if they can be personalized it should work just fine. I am a little sceptical about mass attunements from a distance simply cause the amount of concentration to individually connect to every person who requested it is too much. Its not impossible though for the human brain is truely a wonderful gift by Him.
Also there are a lot of wonderful people here who have been actually and sucessfully attuned from the distance and have had no problems whatsoever so i think trust the Universal energy and i think everything else comes automatically.

Hmmmm...I'm picturing a black light and big flowers drawn on black light posters, beads and  a braided head band after reading this post. Took me back to the 60's daddy-o....Ahhhhh...those were the days. My kids swear I was a hippie although I was too young during the 60's.  Distance stuff man, sounds wild and not even cool.  How do you find trust in some crazy cat you have never met before, and how do you know such stuff is legit?

I used to think the same as you but..Think about this a moment.

Other's trust us to perform Reiki at a distance without knowing them at all or they knowing us, oftentimes they just post on a board. They do not know for sure if someone is performing Reiki or the Black arts but they trust. Anyone from anywhere could venture to a board or join a group with ill intent and send whatever they so desire. There's not much preventing it but faith and trust.

Why is it so different than for an attunement? If distance attunements are so bad then surely distance healing opens up the same opportunity for negative actions of others.

Furthermore, even in a Hands on live classroom there's no way to know until it happens if the person doing your attunement is for real. Even with documentation it's easy to falsify. There's a story about something like that happening in Diane Stiens book where a Reiki cursed her and her home. I'll have to locate it.

Distance Attunements were discovered many years ago when a need propigated them, it is just becoming more common than not. I do find that many folks, (and no disrespect to any one who has not had the fortune of a live class as there are sometimes reasons why one cannot) do only the distance and never do experience what a real class has to offer. I do suggest that if you can at least take a level I class, usually they are the least expensive and you meet a good group of folks to network with as well. The attunements feel far more powerful because you can feel the energies in the room and from the Master. Of course this may be different for each person.

What it boils down to is trust, refferals and trust and more trust.

As to the subject. I find that if someone's mind and heart is open to Reiki the Reiki feels strong even when I do know them or don't. If their hearts and mind have apprehension or slight closure to it then it is not as strong. If they are totally closed to Reiki when they say they aren't it bounces right back to me in some form or another.

OT:
I never experienced "in person" attunments or classes. I am attuned to Reiki distantly by 3 lovely ladies (Reiki Masters) at once. I am not sure what others felt during their "in person" attunments but this is what I experienced in my Reiki 1 distant attunment (note; my Reiki 2 attunment was not that intense);

I wrote;

I got attuned to Reiki 1 roughly 1 hour ago I feel a bit sleepy and VERY relaxed :color:

I drank LOTS and LOTS of water before the attunement so not that thirsty after the attunement. Sorry for rambling here, I feel like out of place at this moment, just thought to write down what I felt so not to forget...

When the attunement started I felt vibrations, like waves... like my body was water surface and then something would touch that surface and the surface would start to vibrate... The vibes would come and go... then come and go....

I felt some strange energy going down my left leg... I also felt many times some sort of twist in my Solar Plexus... I am not sure how to explain this one... each time it would "hit " my solar plexus my body would move, like a pulse...

I would loose the contact with reality, I would say like I was sleeping for some short time... then I came back suddenly feeling a HUGE SURGE OF ENERGY FILLING MY ENTIRE BODY, not the legs, not the hands, but THE BODY (LUNGS AND GUT) :3: WOW wow WOW :smi:
This was the strongest feeling I got during the entire attunement :color:
The energy that filled my body so fast, was expanding so much I had to take a huge breath almost blowing my lungs apart
The energy looked like tiny sandy golden tiny tiny flakes but trillions of them filling me like a sand would fill a bag
I had to take a few more BIG breaths before it calmed down.

I felt more vibrations through my body and had twitches (legs, hands).
I again lost my self in dreaming ... a young boy looking pass me... he is Arabic ... waiting for something, not afraid, relaxed... he is waiting for something he saw many times, I would say something ordinary... blue skies behind him... that is it
There were more images but not that sharp... couldn't see much but a woman carrying a long peace of glass with someone, long glass I would say for building a BIG aquarium... not sure, maybe something connected with my job...hm...

After 45 minutes I woke up , so I was a sleep for some time not sure how long though. The 2 middle fingers of my right hand woke me up they tapped my palm a few times (the palm of the same hand)... tap, tap, tap wakey wakey :lol:
After that I felt a need to Self Reiki...
... another thing I experienced during my attunement;
At one stage I felt my intestines turned over....

I agree with this. This is the reason I am willing to repeat my Reiki attunments but this time I would like to do it in person and I would very much wish to study traditional Japanese Reiki (Jikiden Reiki).
It is very confusing practicing Reiki distantly all the time and not having the experience of knowing how it feels being treated with Reiki by another person (in person).
With in person attunmen you immediately get the experience of treating and being treated by your fellow humans. Certain things we JUST KNOW when being touched but distantly we can only WONDER and QUESTION ... hm ... I am very much sure that distant attunment is not something for a beginner but for experienced energy workers only.

Instead of adding just another student name onto their ever growing distant attunment list, teachers should try and guide the insecure beginner students to the nearest Reiki in person Seminar to experience the Reiki in person. At least the Reiki 1 just for the sake of experience. We are a tribal animal and on our own we don't make much sense and find hard time tuning into the Universal Ki which is part of everything and all.
