I believe you mean attuned to Reiki remotely (since this is posted in the Attunement Guidance Bord), if so then;

I have "received" Reiki attunment distantly and since that day (April 2009) I come to feel that distant attunments have nothing to do with Usui system called Reiki but rather something invented by certain western reiki masters influenced by the New Age spirituality.
I was made to believe that I was "attuned to the energy" by the master which from this point of view sounds very much schizophrenic.

Does it work? In my opinion attunments do not work at all nor will they ever in person nor distantly.

No one can attune you to something you have been attuned to since the beginning of days.

Reiki levels are there to show us where we are on our spiritual journey, and they are there to be passed by Masters. In traditional Reiki one is expected to work with Ki energy for longer time before granted the next level.
The same way martial artist advance in training e.g. Karate. Such martial artist do not get to the Black Belt at once. They can get the Black Belt instantly but it means nothing, there is no experience behind it ... it is only a belt nothing more.

Reiki is not an energy but a system a practice which teaches us how to generate Ki energy (Universal Life Force also called Qi, Chi, Prana) in a Spiritual way.

To learn dancing you must find a dancing school. To learn ballet you need to go to a ballet school. Being allowed to practice ballet is the same as being attuned to Reiki 1. After you master it you will receive the diploma from your master.

Attunment or Reiju is the least important part of the Reiki System of Healing. The most important parts are;
1. raising your energy levels daily (raising your frequency) through breathing meditation practice called Hatsurei Ho to unify our Mind and Body in accordance to tune into the Universal Ki flow.
2. daily meditating/contemplating on the 5 Gokai (5 Usui Principles)
3. daily moving Ki through your body by practicing self healing Reiki hand positions.

Masters believing that they hold the power to actually attune you to the Universal Energy are likely delusional and one should be careful not to get side tracked by such.
Attunemnt is more like a welcome note into the practice and the real work is just to begin (breathing meditations, contemplations, self Reiko hand positions).
One can not expect to heal anyone else before raising it's own energy levels first.

Reiki is not the only energy practice through which one can learn to generate Ki (e.g. Kiatsu, Quantum Touch)
They all work with the same energy, the one energy we are all part of since the beginning of time. They are like different dancing schools. It is all dancing but one teaches Tango, other teaches Waltz or ballet, etc ...  :)

So what I was trying to tell you is that no one can attune you to Ki energy but you your self through diligent work. Masters can only welcome you into the Reiki System of Healing by giving Reiju and showing you the steps. If Master is working on it's self (self healing, breathing meditation) than master's energy level will be much higher than the students and the student will feel this through the attunemnt and even through the training. With such Master one will feel inspired and will feel very much glad and positive. You would like to find such Master  :)
Some students tend to "loose" contact with Reiki with irresponsible/unprepared/untrained masters, and even get totally confused with the whole system, some students even get dragged into channeling angels and spirit guides, some even contact dead souls  ::)
Such things are not Reiki.

Wow, talk about a thread killer.

I don't mean to be confrontational, but you've made some strong claims Rose Quartz.

I do have to admit that my first attunement was via distance, it was impressive to me, a practical Reiki virgin at the time, but a month later when I received my level 1 hands on attunement I realized that the distance attunement I received was little more than a strong distance treatment.  Those who say that attunements or reiju aren't necessary have usually never received either one of the empowerment's in person.

As far as distance treatments are concerned, if they weren't possible, Usui's students wouldn't have been taught to beam reiki across rooms to patients.  If energy can cross a room or go through a wall it can cross an ocean.

Some Japanese Reiki sources say interesting things that don't jive with your opinions, they say that Reiki is a combination of Celestial Ki and Earth Ki, and in their coming together a form of Ki is created that doesn't dissipate in the midst of a healing session.  Don't ask me how, I'm just reporting what I've read, and it certainly doesn't match up with you or all the info we were taught by Takata and her students.  Good old Bill Rand included.  So I guess it shows some imperfection in the whole Reiki story.  That doesn't mean the modality is suspect,  it means a lot of egos are grabbing for their share of fame in the story.

Hatsurei Ho is an excellent energy building meditation and they say that Usui trained his students in using it, but some say that it was only used when they were receiving reiju.  It's also said that he only taught them the Gassho portion of the Hatsurei Ho, which in itself is a wonderfully effective energy building meditation.  The Gassho would probably have been more effective for him anyway.  It's what I've always used with my students when attuning them.

It might be wise for you to make a decision about which energy modality you want to work with because you seem to be getting your Qigong, Reiki, and Ki-Principles jumbled into a lump of mis-information.

You mentioned Prana, the Sanskrit term for "vital life," It's an awesome energy source that we use almost constantly.  When you walk barefoot outside you absorb ground prana.  Did you ever wonder why a hot shower makes you feel better when you're achy?  Water prana.  The sun delivers its share too.  We have energy gifts all around us and we hardly ever know we're receiving them.  Isn't life a wonder?

You're making me think a lot Rose Quartz.  It's almost 2AM now.  I'm going to have to go sit awhile before I sleep or the monkey is going to have his way with me.

Well done. That is the only thing that trully matters my friend  :) Cling to nothing. Don't get cought up in my old deluted rumblings. We humans (as everything else) change all the time, so do I, so do you so does the bad weather, etc ...
Sit in peace and observe the observer, the rest will fall into place on it's own accord  :)
