First steps in meditation

Dear all,

I like to start with practising meditation.
While searching for a good teacher or class to get some lessons,
I want to try something by myself.

Cause I found it hard to let myself go, I have an idea how to stay focused.
So now I want your opinion if it makes any sence, besides that it is always nice to take some time and focus on your body and mind.
So while sitting or just lying in my bed before I go to sleep. I gentle focus on my breathing, then I go with my thougts to my first chakra and imagine the color red. After a while I go to my second and imagine the color orange, then 3rd yellow, 4th green, 5th blue, 6th purple and finaly 7th white. While doing this I lay my both hands on my 2nd chakra. I think it takes about 20 minutes and the three times I did right now I slept very well, and feel much more balanced then the last couple of days. So it feels good, and that is the most important thing.

But if someone have some easy tips or tricks to bring my meditation to a higher level, it will be higly appreciated :)
Since it is just my first step please in Bert & Ernie language :)

That's very good, meditation is basis of Reiki (21 days meditations and Reiki was discovered, Usui story ;)).

Some recomments: find a book- Jose` Silva "Mind control method". This will help you in your studies.
Some recomments for visualisation, imagination.
Here are 3 different components: vizualization, imagination, affirmations.
Visualisation this is seeing closed eyes these objects what are known (sea, lake, waves, woods , water flweing, forest... etc).
Imagination this is seeing closed eyes constructions of knowed objects: candle light without a candle, sunshine without the Sun, building own room in the Earth or on the mountains...etc. Imagiantion this is our fantasie.
Affirmations: this is mental work for goeing on alpha level for imagination and autotraining, healing soul and through this your or client's body. This is known fact that people who is on alpha level or more deep level will healed much more quicly than this will done on betha level. This method are useing hypnotherapists usually.

My recommend: seeing white light or violet light ...etc metaphysical objects this is result of mental trainings and dont worry if on the begin of trainings not all will start to work. Relax, let your thinkings go their way, dont thing of nothing and very soon you will see an other world, see Universum, will see all beautyful things, because this is result of your spiritul growth  .

Hi Johan,

One of my favorite meditations is this: While you are sitting or laying down, put your hands together with your first finger and your index finger touching each other (straight up in the air). Then try to think of nothing but where the two fingers are touching. There will be thoughts that try and creep into your mind. Look at them. See if they are relavent, then toss them aside and go back to concentrating on your fingers touching.

It's a good practice in keeping your mind still and at ease. Easy to practice, hard to do. Let me know if you give it a try and how things turned out.

When we meditate we are raising our vibrational level...so it is easier in a group.  It just takes more effort to raise it on our own.

I really like to use my breathe also...I focus on sending the IN breath to the root chakra....then the OUT breath to the crown chakra for three or five breaths then I do the same ...in to root chakra out sacrel....and so on.
This is simular to what you are doing with the colours...(I might add that if I want to let my mind into the process..LOL)

If I have a pain in my body (that will take my mind's attention) I focus my OUT breath to the pain...we gather chi with each breath so it is benificial to use it to aid in our practice.  

You are right about balancing the chakras..it does make one feel better.

Greetings Johan!

From me, as a complete newbie on meditation.

What I try to do is focusing on only one thing, to shut everything else out, and get some peace an quiet in my head (when kids are sleeping of course).

What I focus on can be anything - a singe word or maybe a sentence. I try to keep it easy at first since i'm just training :-) so I don't use any of the known mantras yet. How about CKR - it's easy :-)

I also keep my palms downwards. That is to feel grounded and to not have som much Reiki-storm in them so I can focus :-)

Along the road you are going to find sooooo many ways to meditate whether is you chakra or your breath,whether  your imagination or nothingness?
Whether is a candle or mantra or name.
Really  i think it doesen't matter what matter is that you find this time for yourself everyday and try to connect with your higher self or higher power to taste the higher vibration even if you don't feel them immediately  that 's ok . the point is find this time every day every single day..
You need to choose to yourself what really make you comfortable ...
Sometimes i feel like chanting and sometimes i focus on  my breath.
I tried most of them
NOw i practice natural meditation .When i walk i focus on my breath .When i sit in any waiting room i practice Heart meditation nobody can notice wath i'm doing since i don't need to close my eyes i tried to hold the breath and listen to my heart beat using the elemnts breath fire water earth and air.with each action i focus on the Divine so i do my tasks with mindfulness .
i keep repeating the principles of Reiki during the day
I set a time for each one.
At night if i'm tired i lay on my back and i imagine that light if filling me and i go to sleep
I think you need to play around and find what is best for you .

Until I got the program by Higher Balance (http://higherbalance.com), it felt like my meditation was going nowhere. It is hard to say what was so special about the course, but it took less than a week to make a difference for me. It would have been nice to be able to start with them back in the mid 1980s instead of just finding out about them this year, 2004.
