Books that changed your life

Divine Energy

Hi Everyone,

I am curious which books changed your life.  I know that there is that one book that changed how you seen yourself, your life or your world and I would like to know which one it was and how! :)

The reason I am asking this is because I am trying to start a business and would like to have some insight on which books I should stock or look into carring.  Your help is very much appreciated!

Thank you,
Tessa :)

Hey Tessa,

You already know mine, but the conversations with God trilogy books are comprehensively thought provoking in my view. ;)

It is hard to choose from so many!

I will think on it and get back to you!

Dear Tess
I haven't got a book that really change my life  ...just like that
I learned a lot from so many different books

each book has a flavor and its own way for guidance .....
conversations with GOd is a great one ......i agree with Danny
I like spiritual books in general
Biography books of great saints ..or spiritual beings inspire me a lot ...regarding of their religions  .......just to learn how they overcome their sufferings and how they dealt with it ...how they built their relationship with the Divine ....found it always very inspiring ...

I'm the same way, I read so much there is no way I can choose one.  My advice is to try to stock a few within as many different areas as posible.  When I go to a book store I tend to go from new age, to religion, to philosophy to alternitive health etc.
Hope this helps.

I would have to say that the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying really changed my life.
It was one of the first books I read on Spirituality and it opened my eyes to other aspects of life.  I first read it in about '98 and have read it many times since and will probably read it many more times too!   ;)

I'm with Danny on this one - the 'Conversations with God' trilogy is a 'must read' in my opinion. I began reading them around the time my psychic ability was awakening, and I remember having literally hundreds of 'eureka' moments while reading those books...it put into words exactly what I was beginning to sense. That, in turn, helped me to trust my newfound perceptions, and a foundation was built.

I also have to mention "Ancient wisdom, modern world" by the Dalai Lama. It helps give real practical insight into the difficulties we face in the west. And it also arrived at 'just' the right time in my life, some years ago now ;)

I started reading the first book of the Conversations with God. I found some of it made sense, some of it baffled me, some of it hit me over the head with a mallet.  ;D

I really was intruiged by it. Normally I read a book quite quickly once I get started, but this one I was putting it down every few pages and it really made me think and look at things differently.

*cackles*
as for life-turning books... theres one i was reading that dave sent me....
I only got through the first 1/4 of it, but it had a bunch of moments that made me stop and think.
It really helped me ge through that bump in the road :)
I'm taking my time getting through it because i dont feel the need to finish it just yet
I love those kinds of books.
It's called Peace and Kindness, and its chapters are taken from the public talks given in England by four Buddhist monks.  :)

And i'm really fascinated by conversations with God :O Amazon has the feature where you can read a bit into them..... *drool*

Thank you guys  :D ;D :-*

one of them is called the power of now and is by eckhart tolle. after reading this book i felt like i didnt have to read another bok ever again, it just gives you all the answers.

the second one i am reading now, it is called something like feel the fear and do it anyway and it is by susan jeffers. it talks about how fear can paralyse us from action and that the best way to overcome our fear is by doing that very thing that scares us so much. it is a very empowering book and i recommend it to everyone.

One book which changed my views on life is Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M Auel. Its the first in the Earths Children series and is set in the stone age times. I think that book was one of the triggers that set me on the path to paganism and later to heathenry.

The Elements of the Runes by Bernard King is another. I'd been pagan for around 15 years when I got that book but never really knew where I was going. After that book, I knew. I was heathen. Never looked back since.

I think every period of my life had books that really influenced me at the time from a self-development/spirituality perspective:

In college - Richard Bach ("Johnathan Livigston..." and all his other books)
Linda Goodman and Globa (on astrology)
Right after college - Lazarev "Diagnostics of Karma", read several of them (I'm Russian by origin)
Then a bit of a spiritual reading "gap" due to graduate school, child, work
More recently - Loise Hay "You can heal your life"
Martha Beck "Finding your own North Star" and "Steering by Starlight"
My fav right now is Tara Brach "Radical Self-Acceptance"

Now I like this thread!

If I had to choose between food or books, books win! I can map my life and what was going on at the time by what books I was reading.
So here goes

1/Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts : An Australian who escapes from Prison only to end up living in a Bombay Slum, a powerful love Saga about friendship and achievements, I actually mourned for a week after finnishing this book, its so good.

2/Jackie Collins books taught me to relax, yes corny, cheesy, materialistic but the good girl always comes through in the end.

3/Seventy Eight Degrees or Wisdom by Rachel Pollack - the original Tarot Bible, really opened my eyes to working with Waite based Tarot cards

4/ The Book of Thoth by Alister Crowley - Went completely over my head so I put it down and returned to it only a few months ago and have to keep double checking the notorious man himself wrote this, a wealth of information.

5/ Chicken Qabalah by Lon Milo Duquette - Can you tell I like to give my brain a workout, I laughed and chuckled my way through this, its hilarious! Before you know it you are rambling off Hebrew letters and can recite the whole Sephiroth of the Tree of Life. A must for understanding the Thoth Tarot.

6/ Homer's Odessey and Illiad - I love the adventure and go weak at the knees when I read about the hunky Odysseus, one day I'll get to Greece!

7/ Marion Eleanor Zimmer Bradley's Mists of Avalon - What can say I am a romantic, they don't write them the way they used to!

8/ Caroline Myss Books - Opened my eyes to Chakras and self healing.

9/ The Integrated Health Bible by Dr Mosaraf Ali - I am a big believer in healthy eating and ayurvedic  medicine, this book is a good introduction.

10/ The Crystal Bible - Just because I like to read this before I fall asleep at night lol

There are many many more books .......
